Workshop FAQ

Who should attend a Waste Free Parenting workshop?

Anyone can attend a workshop. If you are Pregnant, or Expecting a baby, Adopting a baby, Fostering a baby, Already have a baby or toddler you are welcome to attend a workshop. Couples, Grandparents, Daycare Staff, Midwives, health professionals are all welcome but there is only one pack of nappies per household for each child. If you have twins, you are entitled to one pack per baby.

If you have a baby already, I would suggest the Daytime workshops if they are available as there are normally more mums and babies at these. Where as at the night workshops there are generally more couples or first time parents with newborn babies.

Grandmas / nanas are welcome to attend on behalf of their daughter or daughter in law or may be caring for their grandchildren in their home at times so they may choose to attend to get their own pack or attend as a support person.

What is the difference between a couple and an individual ticket?

This is generally used to work out how many people are coming because some of the venues have a limited space. If the price for a couple is the same as an individual then if is just to count how many people but if there is a price difference it will be because there is a small supper or morning tea provided.

What will you learn?

This is a humorous, entertaining and inspirational event full of tips and ideas around ways you can minimise waste in your home especially with young children in the house. You get a free pack bursting with waste minimisation products with each ticket.

What time do we need to arrive?

The workshop is set to start at the time advertised on the ticket or website page. To ensure the smooth running of the workshop and to make sure we start and finish on time, please arrive around 20 minutes before the scheduled start time. Prior to the workshop starting, I have to register everyone and hand out your trial packs so if people arrive late, that will mean I end up starting late and finishing late.

Can I bring my baby?

You are welcome to bring along your baby to the workshop. But please be mindful if they are crying or upset that there are a lot of other people at the workshop so you will need to take them out and settle them and then come back in.

If you are bringing along a baby over 6 months old or a toddler please make sure you have some quiet toys available to entertain them. However, if possible, you will get more out of the session if you are able to arrange a baby sitter and attend on your own. This is especially the case for night workshops as your baby may be quite tired and the workshop is 2.5 hours long so it can make it a late night for them. If possible, attend a daytime workshop where there are normally more mums with babies in attendance.

For Health and Safety reason, you are responsible for your child while at the workshop venue. We take no responsibility for the safety of your child.

Can I come to another workshop if I have already attended one?

The workshop content changes all of the time. Sometimes if there are still spaces left close to the time of the workshop, the council is happy for those who have already attended to come again and get another pack, if it is not ok it will say on the workshops page.

Some councils are happy for you to attend more than once as every nappy that is being used is another nappy that is not going to landfill.

What comes in the Free Trial Packs?

A variety of products that have been sourced or sponsored in relation to the workshop. Packs vary from workshop to workshop.  Most Waste Free Parenting Packs include 2 cloth nappies, a bees wax wrap, reusable food pouches and a menstrual pad but products and brands will change from time to time.

Attendee Testimonials

Here are a few comments from recent attendees:

Went to Kate's 'Waste Free Parenting' workshop last night and it was amazing. Thoroughly informative and surprisingly enjoyable! Kate doesn't make you feel bad about what you currently do and you don't walk away feeling like you are terrible person, she merely gives you the tools and information to make different choices if you choose to. I had no idea there were so many products out there designed to help us reduce waste. I will definitely be doing my part.– Emma

I went to one of Kate's workshops last week, totally changed my view on the way I consume. Very funny and REALISTIC! Not forceful with her ideas but enthusiastic about educating people on waste. I never thought I'd be one of those parents to use cloth nappies but she convinced me. Would definitely recommend attending one of her workshops. Also cloth nappies are much easier than you may think and so much better for the environment that we bring our little ones into.– Codie
